Order one thing first
Un café often gets you an espresso in France. If you want a particular drink, ask for it by name or check what the café offers. Add et un verre d’eau to ask for a glass of water. Practise the order as a sentence so it comes out in one piece.
Listen for the next question
Et avec ceci ? means And with that? Say Ce sera tout, merci if you want nothing else. At a counter, Vous prenez la carte ? asks whether the café accepts card payments. At a table, get the server’s attention politely before asking for the bill.
